Project Shaktipunj

“Violence against women and girls continues unabated in every continent, country and culture. It takes a devastating toll on women’s lives, on their families, and on societies as a whole. Most societies prohibit such violence – yet the reality is too often, it is covered up or tacitly condoned”

(UN Secretary General-Ban Ki Moon, 8 March 2007).

The United Nations defines domestic violence as, “any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, or psychological harm or suffering to Women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life” (The World Health Organization, 2015).

India’s Millennium Development Goals focus on fulfilling the rights of all women and children so they may survive, thrive, develop, participate and are protected as citizens of India. Ultimately, it is imperative to reduce social inequalities based on gender, caste, ethnicity or religion to achieve these goals.

Project Description:

Reincarnation Association has the unique distinction of being one of the few NGO’s that is preventing and reducing violence against women and standing for their rights. We earned this honor through conducting gender sensitization and training workshops across various sectors. The workshops sensitize and create awareness that enables participants to take preventive measures for happier and healthier families. Additionally, we educate organizations and communities on the impacts and costs (financial, mental, physical, reproductive, and otherwise) incurred with each episode of marital disharmony.

We are working with youth, educational institutions, and corporations on issues of violence against women through a broad array of activities and strategies. We actively engage with men and boys to reduce Violence against Women in various areas of Delhi/NCR. Men and boys are empowered to serve as ambassadors of harmony and respect to women in their communities through their education and trainings.

Reincarnation Association uses street theatre, posters, publications and workshops for gender sensitization as training tools to give audiences a better understanding and awareness of the issue. Preventative strategies to reduce violence against women include workshops for recognizing signs of violence in a relationship, existing legal frameworks to understand your rights, coping mechanisms, establishing support groups, and active engagements with men and boys. In order to really change social norms and attitudes towards acceptance, we believe that men must become active participants in preventing and reducing violence against women.

We are also engaged in promoting a safer and healthier workplace by conducting training sessions on sexual harassment. Reincarnation Association facilitates the creation of sexual harassment committees in the workplace to adequately; appropriately and sensitively intervene in cases of sexual harassment.
